Animal Transportation Volunteer
Purpose of role:
To assist the TBDHS with transporting cats/dogs to and from surrounding communities
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have G Drivers License
- Able to work with minimal supervision
- Must be able to lift 50lbs or more with assistance (kennels with large dogs)
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Represent the TBDHS in a professional matter
- Able to drive long distances at times
- Must be comfortable with handling both cats and dogs
- Must be comfortable driving a large vehicle (i.e passenger van)
- Able to communicate with CEC or Executive Director issue arises
- Stay consistent with logging hours (signing in and out) and maintaining a commitment to shifts
- Follow all shelter protocols, practices and instructions as directed by TBDHS
Time Commitment:
Minimum 6 Month Commitment
“On Call” availability (with appropriate amount of notice)
Primary Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Drive to locations outside of Thunder Bay to transport animals
- Work alongside a partner during transfers
- Lift kennels in and out of vehicles
- Lift food and other supplies out of vehicles
- Handle dogs for mid travel potty breaks
- Assist the TBDHS team once animals arrive to shelter (i.e potty breaks, kennel set up, providing food and water)
- Documentation of hours

Interview with Community Engagement Coordinator (in-person, Zoom or Facetime)
Once accepted, complete an in-person tour and orientation
