Dog Enrichment/Dog Walking
Purpose of role:
To provide basic enrichment-focusing primarily on dog walking, in-yard or in-kennel socialization, grooming (i.e brushing)
Qualifications:
- Must meet age requirements (over 14 years of age with adult supervision/signed parental or guardian consent, 16 years of age with signed parental or guardian consent, or 18 years of age or older)
- Able to handle large, strong dogs
- Familiar with dog behaviours and body language
- Comfortable with all sizes and breeds
- Some experience with dog training and handling preferred but no required
- Able to work with minimal supervision once trained
- Able to communicate with Animal Care Staff or CEC if medical or behavioural issue arises
- Stay consistent with logging hours (signing in and out) and maintaining a commitment to shifts
- Follow all shelter protocols, practices and instructions as directed by TBDHS
Time Commitment:
Minimum 6 Month Commitment (At least one shift per month. Shifts will depend on animal availability)
Primary Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Provide play and/or exercise in outdoor yards
- On-leash walks
- Provide minor grooming where applicable (i.e brushing)
- Relaying information to Animal Care Workers or CEC if any underlaying issues arise
- Documentation of hours
- Additional cleaning tasks in shelter or outside yards if required
Selection
As per TBDHS recruitment expectations, Volunteers must complete:

Interview with Community Engagement Coordinator (in-person, Zoom or Facetime)
Once accepted, complete an in-person tour and orientation
